While youth violence has always been a critical part of delinquency, the modern epidemic is marked by high rates of gun violence.
Adolescents in cities possess and carry guns on a large scale, guns are often at the scene of youth violence, and guns often are used.
Guns play a central role in initiating, sustaining, and elevating the epidemic of youth violence. The demand for guns among youth was fueled by an “ecology of danger,” comprising street gangs, expanding drug markets with high intrinsic levels of violence, high rates of adult violence and fatalities, and cultural styles of gun possession and carrying. Guns became symbols of respect, power, identity, and manhood to a generation of youth, in addition to having strategic value for survival.
The relationship between guns and youth violence is complex. The effects of guns are mediated by structural factors that increase the youth demand for guns, the available supply, and culture and scripts which teach kids lethal ways to use guns. / guns down life up

Jarron Collins reacts to brother Jason’s revelation that he’s gay!

Late last summer Jason called and said that he was coming over because he had something to tell me. This was nothing new. We speak multiple times a day, always have. He’s Tio Jason to my three kids. He’s like a brother to my wife. He’s my twin, eight minutes older. We live only a few miles apart on the west side of L.A. But while most of our conversations are quick and light, this one was different.
“What’s going on?” I asked.
He sat down in my living room.
“Jarron,” he said, “I gotta talk to you about something serious.”
He was very simple and matter-of-fact.
“I’m a 34-year-old NBA center. I’m black. And I’m gay,” says @jasoncollins34

I’m a 34-year-old NBA center. I’m black. And I’m gay.
I didn’t set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I’m happy to start the conversation. I wish I wasn’t the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, “I’m different.” If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I’m raising my hand.
My journey of self-discovery and self-acknowledgement began in my hometown of Los Angeles and has taken me through two state high school championships, the NCAA Final Four and the Elite Eight, and nine playoffs in 12 NBA seasons.

Allen Iverson, one of the greatest NBA players of this generation who earned more than $150 million during his playing career, cannot even afford a cheeseburger today.
Just three years removed from the league that made him a multimillionaire, where the undersized 6-foot turbocharged dynamo earned the adulation of millions for winning against the giants, he has quickly spiraled into a pit of alcoholism, depression and bankruptcy.
Friends and family members say, however, that the seeds of his precipitous fall from grace and financial heaven were sown years ago.

Brittney Griner Comes Out of the Closet, Admits that She is Gay

Brittney Griner, one of the most dominant centers in the history of college basketball, has decided to put her love life on display by admitting that she is gay. Griner was the #1 draft pick in the WNBA lottery and got personal with her s-x life during an interview with Maggie Gray andSports Illustrated.
Griner was asked about the difference between male and female athletes coming out of the closet:
I really couldn’t give an answer on why that’s so different. Being one that’s out, it’s just being who you are. Again, like I said, just be who you are. Don’t worry about what other people are going to say, because they’re always going to say something, but, if you’re just true to yourself, let that shine through. Don’t hide who you really are.
